HALF OF THE PLASTIC MANKIND EVER MADE WAS PRODUCED IN THE LAST 13 YEARS.
EVERY PIECE OF PLASTIC THAT WAS EVER MADE STILL EXISTS TODAY AND BECOMES MICROPLASTIC IN THE END.
WE ONLY RECYCLE 9% OF OUR PLASTIC GARBAGE. INCREDIBLE 91% END UP IN THE ENVIRONMENT.
80% OF THE WORLD'S MARINE DEBRIS HAS ITS ORIGIN ONSHORE AND IS CARRIED VIA RIVERS INTO OUR OCEANS.
EVERY MINUTE WE ARE THROWING AWAY 8 MILLION PLASTIC BOTTLES AROUND THE WORLD.
100.000 MARINE MAMMALS AND 1 MILLION SEA BIRDS DIE EACH YEAR BECAUSE OF PLASTIC POLLUTION.
UNTIL THE YEAR 2050 99% OF ALL SEA BIRDS WILL HAVE PLASTIC IN THEIR STOMACHS.
WITH YOU, IT WILL BE MUCH EASIER
The sins of our totally consumption focussed society are influencing our future. We must take responsibility. We must change our habits and especially our single-use mentality. Our 'buy it, consume it and throw it away' lifestyle needs to be reconsidered. It's time to take action. Get involved, do your bit, be the change and learn more about how you can make an impact. Beginning from today. Because every journey starts with YOU!
1. LIVE SUSTAINABLY
REFUSE disposable plastic whenever it's possible. Choose items that are not wrapped in plastic, carry your own bags, containers & coffee mugs. REUSE durable containers, bottles, bags and other everyday items. Choose glass, paper, stainless steel, wood, cotton and bamboo over plastic. REDUCE your plastic footprint. Cut down on your consumption of goods that contain plastic. If it will leave behind plastic trash, don't buy it. RECYCLE what you can’t refuse, reduce or reuse. Pay attention to recycle your litter in the dedicated bins and keep an eye on hazardous waste.
2. REDUCE YOUR PLASTIC FOOTPRINT
PLASTIC BOTTLES Bring a stainless steel or glass water bottle rather than drinking water out of disposable plastic bottles. You can purchase alternative water bottles at super markets and hardware stores. If you don't have your bottle with you, buy drinks in glass bottles, because glass is recycled at much higher rates than plastic. SKIP THE STRAW Consider some easy alternatives to the toxic and harmful plastic straws that come in nearly every restaurant or to-go coffee shop. Often there is no need for a straw, it's only a habit. Say 'No straw for me, please!' or bring your own, made of stainless steel, glass, paper or bamboo. PLASTIC BAGS Always bring your own bags made of cotton or hemp whenever you shop, not just for the supermarket. By bringing your own bag, you alone can save between 400 and 600 plastic bags per year. Don't use plastic bags to put fruits or vegetables inside, nature already equipped them with a perfect protection. TO-GO CUPS One major contributor to plastic pollution are to-go cups. Mostly not longer used than 5 minutes, these items of our todays society have a plastic lining and are made of plastic. To stop this habit, bring your own stainless steel or ceramic mug with you. A lot of coffee shops already reward it with a small discount on coffee or tea.
3. BUY ANIMAL CRUELTY FREE PRODUCTS
In a world where each and everyone wants to be pretty and sexy, companies spend billions in marketing campaigns and advertising to make us buy their products. They want us to look like celebrities and our toilets to smell like the ocean. Somehow they never show us the truth behind. In fact, it's a cruel and greedy business attached, where animals are suffering and getting abused every day. Don't support companies who do testing on animals. Watch out and search the internet before purchasing a product. Still one of the best methods: Ask your grandma how she did it in the past and she will tell you how to switch back to natural products. We think that compassion is sexy. For us, the best way to stop any kind of animal cruelty, killing and abuse in the name of religion, tradition, food, science or sports is very simple: GO VEGAN!
4. SEXY PEOPLE DON'T LITTER
Help confused and disoriented stray plastic and litter to find their way back home. Wherever, whenever, pick at least 3 pieces of litter when you walk outside in nature and dispose them in the dedicated recycling and litter bins. Be a model for your family, friends, colleagues and talk to them if you witness them tossing something into nature. Do not stop to clean up during your holidays or when not at home - litter doesn't know any countries or borders. What goes around, comes back around.
5. DON'T BE A TOURIST, BE A TRAVELLER
LEAVE IT AS YOU FOUND IT The only thing you should take with you from nature is litter. There is no need to hunt trophies or collect items simply because you like them. They are best kept where they are and should stay there. So please, always remember: Shoot nothing but photos. Take nothing but litter. Leave nothing but wilderness. DON'T BECOME CAPTIVATED BY CAPTIVITY There is no beauty in stolen freedom. While on holidays, don't go riding elephants, cuddling tigers or holding sea turtles. Taking selfies with wild animals is not cool. Dolphins and whales belong to the ocean, not into tiny and dirty tanks within sea aquariums or zoos. Please don't support greed, cruelty and profit! Visit sanctuaries, sign petitions and give your voice to empty all the tanks and cages!
